IDL at the Annual Meeting of the Palaeontological Association

The researcher of the Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) Pedro Mocho participated in the annual meeting of The Palaeontological Association that took place in Valencia (Spain). The paleontologist presented a communication on the titanosaurian dinosaurs of the Lo Hueco fossil site (Cuenca, Spain), including new data on the evolutionary history of these giants of the Upper Cretaceous of the Ibero-Armorican domain. The Lo Hueco fossil site corresponds to a bonebed-type deposit, found in 2007 during construction works of the high-speed train that connects Madrid to Valencia. It is recognized as the largest deposit of vertebrate fossils from the European Upper Cretaceous. At this meeting, the paleontologist also presented another study on morphofunctional evolution in Eusauropoda, based on the detailed study and 3D reconstruction of Spinophorosaurus nigerensis from the Middle Jurassic of Niger (North Africa), which is one of the most complete sauropod dinosaurs currently known.These works are the result of projects carried out in collaboration with the Group of Evolutionary Biology of UNED - Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia of  Madrid.
