FOREVAR (Food waste reduction and valorization) is the winner
Joana Ortigueira, PhD student of IDL and IST (supervised by Carla Silva -IDL and Patrícia Moura- LNEG), won the first place in the Toste de Azevedo Award, attributed by the Portuguese Association for Hydrogen. The wining project is entitled FOREVAR (Food waste reduction and valorization) and focuses on the collection and valorization of food waste for bioenergy production (anaerobic conversion of food waste to produce biological hydrogen and added value by-products). The main objective of the project is not only the correct valorization of this kind of waste but also the raise of awareness in society for this problem.
The 2018 Toste de Azevedo Award was created under the H2SE-Hydrogen and Energy Sustainability Project and aims to distinguish the best academic work developed in systems or technologies related to energy sustainability, focused on the Hydrogen as energetic vector.
