Researchers of the IDL on a field mission in the Madeira island

The researchers of the Instituto Dom Luíz (IDL) João Mata and Inês Pereira were last September 2009 on fieldwork in the Madeira island to collect samples for geochemical and geochronological analyses. These works were developed under the project "Seismic and Geochemical Constraints on the Madeira HoTspot system (SIGHT)”, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) and coordinated by Graça Silveira and João Mata. The project aims to obtain a seismic image of the underlying structure of Madeira and to detail the geochemistry of the magmas of the island to better characterize the geodynamic processes involved in their genesis.
