IDL researchers publish in Nature Communications - Explaining variations in carbon uptake by European ecosystems

Atmospheric circulation determines wind patterns across the continent and thereby the amount of rainfall and temperature in different regions. In a paper published in Nature Communications, an international team of researchers involving researchers of IDL, Universidade de Lisboa and led by Ana Bastos during her PhD (Ana Bastos is now a Post-doc in LSCE in Paris), explains the exceptionally low CO2 uptake by European ecosystems in the early 2000’s by the persistence of a particular combination of atmospheric circulation patterns.
