IDL researchers at Lagoa de Santo André
On the 28th of March - a day of spring tides that coincided with the local festivities - the opening of the sand barrier (which separates the lagoon from the ocean) of Santo André beach took place. IDL researchers (Conceição Freitas, Anabela Cruces, César Andrade, Miguel Inácio e Vera Lopes) together with the group of Environmental Engineering (FE-ULHT), joined this event and performed a monitoring survey of water quality and sediments of the lagoon.
The opening of the sand barrier which takes place every year results in in an inlet that allows the renovation of the lagoon aquatic environment.Thank you to Destacamento de Controlo Costeiro de Sines and the technicians of Reserva Natural das Lagoas de Santo André e da Sancha.More images here.
