IDL at the Ciência 2019 Meeting

The Ciência 2019 took place between 8 and 10 July in the Centro de Congressos of Lisbon. This annual meeting of Portuguese researchers aims to promote the broad debate of the main themes and challenges of the scientific agenda beyond the universe of research. Therefore, the main objective of this meeting is to stimulate participation and interaction among researchers, the business sector and the general public. The event is promoted by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia in collaboration with the Ciência Viva – Agência Nacional para a Cultura Científica e Tecnológica and the Comissão Parlamentar de Educação e Ciência.

The Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) joined the Ciência 2019 with various presentations and talks on different themes developed by the research groups that form part of the IDL's structure. The first day of the meeting had two demonstrations, related with the development of sustainable and systemic solutions for energetic transition: “Solar cube” by Miguel Centeno Brito and “Sistema de sombreamento hauskool” by Marta Panão. Also, a workshop about a project developed in the scope of the Clube Ciência Viva na Escola was presented by the IDL researcher Mário Cachão. In the last day of the meeting, Pedro Sousa  gave a talk about climate models and the possible impacts of large-scale dynamics on the evolution of Mediterranean climates, entitled  "The Cape Town Day Zero and Mediterranean climates drying trends: impacts of large-scale Dynamics " and Carlos Marques da Silva presented a curious example of urban geodiversity found in tiles with rudist fossils, which is a decorative art form typical in buildings of the city of Lisbon " Urban geodiversity, fossils and decorative arts: The curious case of the "Rudist tiles of Lisbon".
