Collaborator of IDL won a WWU Muenster International Fund fellowship

Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) collaborator Ana Jesus was awarded a WWU Muenster International Fund fellowship to develop research on multiple sulfur isotopes during the last trimester of 2019. Ana worked at the Muenster Isotope Research Center led by Prof. Dr. Harald Strauss where she performed sequential sulfur extraction for isotopic measurements on more than 150 samples from two ongoing studies on the Oman Ophiolite. One project is devoted to the understating of mineralizing and hydrothermal processes on Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide deposits that have been studied by former Faculdade de CiΓͺncias da Universidade de Lisboa Economic Geology MSc students (Andre Cravinho and Bruno Barros) in collaboration with the UniversitΓ© de Toulouse and other IDL researchers (Antonio Mateus). The other study consists of a detailed profile through the crustal section on the ophiolite, from the dike-gabbro transition to the Moho Transition Zone, using cores of the Oman Drilling Project (OmanDP) of which Ana integrates the science team. This profile will enable to unravel sulfur cycling in the ocean crust plus associated metal fluxes and involves OmanDP scientists from the University of Southampton and University of Plymouth, IDL’s researcher Mario Abel and a MSc student from the Departamento de Geologia FCUL Economic Geology MSc program: Diogo Silva traveled to Muenster to have a hands-on learning experience on all steps of the laboratory and analytical processes.
