5ª Conferência sobre Morfodinâmica Estuarina e Costeira - MEC2019
The 5th Conference on Estuarine and Coastal Morphodynamics (http://mec2019.lnec.pt/) took place from 24 to 26 June 2019 at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. This conference was organized by several institutions, among them the Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) and the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and had as main objectives to promote the discussion on themes of coastal sedimentary dynamics, to favor the exchange of experiences between researchers, designers and managers of the coastal zone and to disseminate the results of research projects related to estuarine and coastal morphodynamics. It had about 60 participants from different Portuguese and foreign institutions, 30 oral communications and 20 posters. The event also featured two plenary conferences, the first entitled “Watershed response to modern climate and land use: implications for coastal morphodynamic evolution” was held by Amy East, US Geological Survey (USGS) geologist, and the second “The challenges of coastal management in a climate change scenario” by Pimenta Machado, vice-president of the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA). The last day was set aside for a workshop on “Long-term morphological modeling” by Hans Hanson, professor in the Water Resources Engineering department at Lund University (Sweden). The next MEC, in 2021, will be again in Lisbon and the organization of the 6th edition will be in charge of the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC).
