Prediction of Soil Salinity and Sodicity using Electromagnetic Conductivity Imaging
New work on the use of electromagnetic conductivity images to assess salinity and other properties of soil was recently published in the Geoderma magazine. Mohammad Farzamian, Maria Catarina Paz, Maria Conceição Gonçalves, and Fernando Monteiro Santos, from Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL), participated in this work in collaboration with researchers from the Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (INIAV). The results show that it is possible to use electromagnetic induction to monitor soil salinity and sodicity in risk areas rapidly and efficiently, which is required to conserve and improve the soil functions.
