Academic Degree and field of specialization:

Guilherme Gaspar graduated with the Energy and Environmental Engineering degree in 2012 from the University of Lisbon. In 2016 he obtained the Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet (NTNU), where his research work on CZ silicon for high performance solar cells had the collaboration from SINTEF, IFE, ECN and the Norwegian industry.

Between 2016 and 2017 he was Post-Doctoral researcher with the Nanoelectronic Materials and Devices group at the Tyndall National Institute (University College Cork), working on novel III-V semiconductors for electronics.

After, he was Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (i3N), member of CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials and teaching assistant at the Dept. Physics at University of Aveiro. The research work at the University of Aveiro was focused on novel metal surface treatments with laser for direct application in BOSCH heat exchangers and on large-area synthesis of CVD graphene for optics.

Guilherme is currently Research Associate at the Institute Dom Luiz (IDL) and Invited Assistant Professor at Faculty of Sciences at University of Lisbon (Portugal), working on novel materials for solar cells and energy storage devices.

Scientific Interests

Main Interests:

Dr. Gaspar’s research interests focus on growth and laser surface processing of several materials, including semiconductors for solar cells (e.g. CIGS and Si) and carbon nanocomposites for supercapacitors and batteries. In addition, the current research work covers thin films deposition with ALD, CVD and E-beam, and. defects engineering. Electrical (e.g. IV, CV and ECV), spectroscopy (Raman, PL, FTIR and XPS) and electron microscopy characterization techniques are of particular interest.
